1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CHOP (the "Service"), operated by CHOP Inc. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

We may update these Terms with 30 days' notice for material changes.

2. Description of Service

CHOP is a meal planning tool that:

Analyzes photos of your fridge, pantry, or ingredients using computer vision AI
Identifies available ingredients and estimates expiration timelines
Generates personalized recipes based on available ingredients and dietary preferences
Provides step-by-step cooking instructions
Tracks ingredient inventory and suggests recipes to minimize food waste
Generates grocery lists for missing ingredients

CHOP uses technology for ingredient recognition and recipe suggestions. Results are estimates and suggestions, not guarantees.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old. If under 18, parental/guardian consent is required.

4. Account Registration

Standard account requirements apply: accurate information, secure credentials, responsibility for account activity.

5. IMPORTANT: Food Safety and Allergy Disclaimers

5.1 NOT a Food Safety Authority

CHOP is a recipe suggestion tool, NOT a food safety service. You are solely responsible for:

Verifying the freshness and safety of all ingredients before cooking
Checking for allergens in all recipes, even when dietary filters are applied
Following proper food handling, storage, and cooking practices
Ensuring food is cooked to safe internal temperatures
Consulting medical professionals about dietary restrictions and food allergies

5.2 Expiry Estimates Are Approximate

Ingredient expiration timelines are AI-estimated approximations based on typical shelf life data. They are NOT based on actual product expiration dates. Always check actual expiration/best-by dates on product packaging, inspect food visually and by smell, and follow USDA food safety guidelines.

5.3 Allergen Warnings

While CHOP offers dietary filters (e.g., nut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free):

Recipes may contain errors in ingredient listing or allergen identification
Dietary filters reduce but do not eliminate the risk of allergen inclusion
Cross-contamination risks are not assessed by CHOP
Always read product labels and verify ingredients independently
If you have severe food allergies, consult a healthcare professional before relying on recipe suggestions

5.4 Nutritional Information

Any nutritional information provided is an estimate and may be inaccurate. Do not use CHOP as a substitute for professional nutritional guidance.

5.5 Assumption of Risk

BY USING CHOP, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPT THE INHERENT RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH FOOD PREPARATION, INCLUDING THE RISK OF ALLERGIC REACTIONS, FOODBORNE ILLNESS, AND INJURY. YOU AGREE THAT THE COMPANY IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY ADVERSE OUTCOMES RESULTING FROM RECIPES GENERATED BY THE SERVICE.

6. Photo Privacy

When you upload or capture a photo:

The photo is sent to our servers and processed by a third-party AI vision service (OpenAI Vision API) to identify ingredients.
Photos are processed and then deleted within 24 hours. We do not maintain a permanent library of your fridge photos.
Only the extracted ingredient list (text data) is retained in your account.

We do not use your photos for advertising, marketing, facial recognition, or analyzing non-food items.

7. Subscription Plans and Payment

CHOP offers three tiers:

Free: 1 recipe request per week, recipe suggestions, basic pantry tracking.
Plus ($6.99/month or $49.99/year): Unlimited recipe requests, dietary filters, savings reports, recipe history.
Max ($9.99/month or $79.99/year): Everything in Plus, plus meal planning calendar, family sharing (up to 5), priority recipe generation, and grocery gap lists with sharing.

Subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis.
Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Cancel anytime via account settings; no phone call required.
Use "Restore Purchases" to restore your active subscription on new devices.
Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when purchasing a subscription.

For subscriptions purchased through Apple, payment is charged to your Apple ID account. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your iOS device Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. Apple's standard terms apply to in-app purchases.

8. Recipe Content Disclaimer

Recipes and cooking instructions are generated by AI and may contain errors in ingredient quantities, cooking times, or temperatures; suggest ingredient combinations you may not enjoy; miss ingredients visible in photos; or provide incomplete instructions.

Always use common sense and cooking knowledge when following recipe suggestions.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for commercial food preparation without written consent
Upload photos containing illegal content
Attempt to reverse-engineer our systems
Use automated means to access the Service
Submit false allergy or dietary information

10. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of your photos. You grant us a limited license to process photos for ingredient recognition. Recipe suggestions are for your personal use.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT INGREDIENT RECOGNITION WILL BE ACCURATE, RECIPES WILL BE SAFE OR SUITABLE, EXPIRY ESTIMATES WILL BE ACCURATE, DIETARY FILTERS WILL ELIMINATE ALL ALLERGENS, OR NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION WILL BE PRECISE.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COMPANY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES ARISING FROM ALLERGIC REACTIONS, FOODBORNE ILLNESS, INACCURATE INGREDIENT RECOGNITION, OR FOLLOWING COOKING INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE. TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF AMOUNTS PAID IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR $100.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify the Company from claims arising from your use of recipes generated by the Service, including claims related to food safety.

15. Dispute Resolution

Binding arbitration under AAA rules. Class action waiver. 30-day opt-out period.

16. Governing Law

Laws of the State of Delaware.

17. Termination

Delete your account anytime. Data purged within 30 days. Photos deleted within 24 hours of processing.
